About Jean Warner

Jean Warner / Author, Poet Books

Jean Warner

Central Kansas may seem to be in conflict with the philosophy of a writer whose views some would consider to be on the outer edge of the mainstream. However, it is the birthplace of this author.

Jean Warner was born and raised in the little town of Russell, Kansas and attended high school with two future conservative senators and presidential candidates, Bob Dole and Alan Specter. It was a typical midwestern town, steeped in traditionalism, a good town, the home of nearly 5,000 good people. Those who survived the dust bowl days were firmly grounded and staunch. Social activity in Russell centered around the churches and schools. For many years, Jean's father Dr. S. C. Herrick, was the only dentist in Russell. He and his wife, Ethel, raised four daughters, of whom Jean is the youngest.

Jean left Kansas when she was seventeen and moved to Colorado, where she lived for nearly thirty years. She married there and gave birth to a son and two daughters, whom she raised by herself after her husband's death when the children were small. When the last one left home, she remarried and moved to Arizona. She is a retired Civil Service employee, having served as a Service Representative for the Social Security Administration, and is once again a widow.

Always inquisitive and eager to learn, Jean began her search for a greater meaning of life and a broader understanding of spiritual concepts while in her teens. Although accepting the Christian principles inbred in her through her early environment, she sought for an expanded perspective of these concepts and became an avid student of metaphysical teachings. Her studies led to alignment with groups of like-minded individuals and to dozens of books that have given her a greater insight into the world and the universe in which she lives.

Her focus now is on using this insight to inspire others through her poetry and prose, as well as through song and speaking engagements. Her poetry has been published in various magazines, newspapers, and books, as have her articles. For five years she had a full-page monthly column in a magazine called “Conscious Living”, published in Westport, Connecticut. This established the basis for Messages from the Light. Shortly before she left her position with Social Security, two of her light-hearted articles were printed on the back covers of the SSA's national magazine, “Oasis.
